ONE GREAT HOPE: Amy & Christina

Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God. Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love. Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace. For there is one body and one Spirit, just as you have been called to one glorious hope for the future.

Ephesians 4:1-4, New Living Translation

In today’s world, seeing the good, being the good, and keeping the faith is a challenge.

When you are constantly reminded of what is wrong in the world, it is hard to have hope for better days. As another Advent season is upon us, we are reminded once again of Jesus’ birth, the hope that comes along with it, and of all the people involved.

If it wasn’t for the angels, the shepherds wouldn’t have made it to the manger.

If it wasn’t for the star, the wise men wouldn’t have found Jesus.

And if it wasn’t for Jesus bringing peace on earth, we wouldn’t have hope today.

Advent (or Christmas) is a season of hope. It’s a reminder of what is good in the world. Just like Ephesians 4:4 says, there is one hope and that hope is Jesus. Being a believer in Jesus means that we are called to bring a united front and to live in peace as the body of Christ.

We are called to love one another. This reminds us of a song from VBS this summer called “Love One Another.” The lyrics say: “Love one another with a love like no other that we’ve found in you. Love one another, that’s what we’ll do.” That is what God has called us to, and it’s something we have to remember and be intentional about every day.

So, if you are looking for hope today, take a look around and be open to what God shows you!

Dear Lord, As we navigate through this Christmas season we pray that we will be reminded of your goodness as we go about our day. Amen.

Reflect on this:
What is one act of kindness you can do today, for someone you don’t know? How might this act of kindness bring you hope?

Amy and Christina, you are both a dose of happiness to everyone who knows you! Just like you mentioned… how God orchestrated the star, the angels, the shepherds, the wise men, the holy birth of Jesus….it takes a village doesn’t it? And you are doing your important part of spreading the joy of Jesus to the world. Thank you!

Julie thank you for your kind words and insight. Love hearing what everyone’s take away is. It’s so interesting cause we wrote this over a month ago and some how it reads different now that we are here in the midst of the Advent season. Christina even said the other day while reading this “we wrote this?” Lol. Happy to read everyone’s comments.

Amy and Christina, you describe so beautifully how God brought everything together to give all of us that miraculous moment of Jesus’ birth in a stable. And Jesus brought hope into the world and enables us to share that hope by caring for one another. That hope is conveyed through both of you with the goodness you bring to others around you.
