Advent should be an ADVENTure!
An adventure that honors tradition without bowing the knee to retail-bullying.
One that embraces fun and gift-giving without breaking the bank.
One that engages more of me than just my schedule and my credit card.
The season of Advent may appear to have been hijacked by a relentless stream of commercial messages, but this year can be different! Instead of plodding through another stress-filled holiday, women on the move are choosing a different route to Christmas morning.
Trek to the Manger is a tool in the hands (and hearts) of busy women during the season of Advent. Each daily devotion presents an opportunity to redeem the Christmas holiday and reclaim our focus on the Light of the World. This spiritual adventure is an ideal resource for small groups, Bible studies, or personal devotional reading.
A reading schedule and small group discussion guide are available upon request for women wishing to join others on this journey of faith. Use the contact form below to access these resources!
It’s time to fire up your GPS and grab a traveling buddy or two! Not for another trip to the mall… for a Trek to the Manger.

I’ve been on a retreat this week. Never mind that I worked as many as 13 hours a day while retreat-ing. Never mind that what occupied much of my mind-space this week had to do with counting books and counting money. Never mind that my retreat required air travel and taxi rides and coordinating a […]
It came in the mail this week – my shiny Starbucks Gold Card. Imprinted with my name, this card is more than a high class gift card. It allows me to get my favorite iced soy latte without paying 50 cents for the soy milk. It allows me to get a free refill when I […]
My husband and I had just finished loading up my little Nissan Cube with groceries the other day when a man passing by commented to his friend as my husband got into the driver’s seat, not so much under his breath, “he’s gay.” (Not the word he used.) A friend told me about a church […]
There are times in my life when I have been truly amazed at my own fearlessness while doing INCREDIBLY intimidating things. ME – afraid of heights and PETRIFIED of falls – in a harness, climbing a 50 foot tower, only to JUMP OFF of the top and be lowered to the ground by another person – […]
I’m not satisfied with Sunday School answers. I come by this quality honestly as I’m sure I inherited at least part of my inquiring mind from my mother. She “graduated” early from Confirmation classes because the Pastor couldn’t deal with her challenging questions for another year. Not that she quit asking them, mind you. I […]
When I was in Jr. High, the really gifted kids went to SEEK. I’m not sure what it stands for – I guess I never did know – but it was clear that the SEEK kids were at least a notch above the rest of us, since they were allowed to escape Mr. Vega’s social […]
I’m preparing for a women’s retreat today. It’s a rainy, chilly autumn day and so my mind has wandered from the task at hand to a snowy, chilly winter day… years ago. My first retreat. The first retreat I ever planned and led was in February 2006, and it was truly a labor of LOVE. […]
Every now and then, we miss the point. Every now and then, we get too focused on the shoes and we simply miss the point. After my first blog post, just over one week ago, I ran into a friend who had read “My Pink Shoes” and had left an amazingly encouraging comment in response. […]
There goes another Tuesday morning Bible study… 13 women armed with coffee cups (correction: 12 coffee cups, one tea cup) and Bibles were once again hijacked by the Holy Spirit. This phenomenon, happening with increasing frequency, takes the entire circle of women in my living room on one WILD ride through a full range of […]
