Put On Christ

For you are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus.

And all who have been united with Christ in baptism have put on Christ, like putting on new clothes.

There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male and female.

For you are all one in Christ Jesus.

Galatians 3:26-28 New Living Translation

Some songs are simply for fun!

Put On Christ was written to accompany a retreat I wrote for women called Ready to Wear. Based on the Galatians text above and this one from Colossians, the event was a weaving-together of biblical truths and the practicalities of being a woman:

“So, chosen by God for this new life of love, dress in the wardrobe God picked out for you: compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, discipline. Be even-tempered, content with second place, quick to forgive an offense. Forgive as quickly and completely as the Master forgave you. And regardless of what else you put on, wear love. It’s your basic, all-purpose garment. Never be without it.” Colossians 3:12-14 The Message

It’s not a long song, and on the surface it isn’t very deep. But if you’re looking for that intersection between real life and God’s Word, you may have stumbled onto something here that… fits.

Put On Christ

Put on Christ –

the Author and Perfector of our faith.

Put on Christ –

be sure to wear His most amazing grace!

Put on Christ –

when I do, the world will clearly see

Jesus is alive and He is living in me!

Well, I have so many choices

of what to wear each day.

I could try clothes on for hours

but then I’d have to change!

Though I struggle every day

to get my earthly clothes just right…

I’m God’s holy fashion plate

when I choose to put on Christ!

Can you think of a song that makes you smile AND reminds you of a spiritual truth?

I can’t think of a song off the top of my head, but I sure do remember what fun we had in Prescott for the Ready to Wear retreat. ☺️ Brings back lots of memories. ♥️

Yes!! Ready to Wear is one of my favorite retreats, and that first time doing it with all of you in Prescott was SO much fun! One of my favorite memories from that weekend is the fashion show – seeing everyone in an outfit that made them feel most like themselves 🤍 What a gift!!

    2 Chronicles 20:15:
This is what the Lord says: “Do not be afraid! Don’t be discouraged by this mighty army, for the battle is not yours, but God’s”

I have lived with a lot of fear since my husband passed away, but with the start of the new year, I’ve taken on a new outlook. I have gone deeper into my Bible studies, let go of my desire to be in control, and I’m finally learning what it means to be completely dependent on God, trusting that He is all I need and He is in control.

One of my favorite songs about saying goodbye to fear is “The Breakup Song,” by Francesca Batistelli. It always makes me smile and feel empowered 🙂
