No Greater Joy

I will shout for joy
    as I sing Your praises;
my soul will celebrate because You have rescued me.

Psalm 71:23 The Voice

Have you ever done a Beth Moore study? They are deep and wide and meaty and growth-inducing IF you do the homework.

I’m not sure which study brought this song to life, but joy was the source and Revelation was the inspiration. This was my first real connection with the 66th book of the Bible and my imagination was on fire!

We “can only imagine” what reality awaits us after this life ends and eternity ensues. I picture a celebration in the spirit of Revelation chapter 21, where He who is seated on the throne says, “I am making everything new!” (verse 5).

Not just some things. Everything!

On a universal scale, God is putting everything back together again (shalom). Yes! But this song reminds me that God’s restoration work includes me. Inconsequential as I am, Jesus says this about me and it absolutely makes my heart sing:

Anyone who conquers will be clothed like this in white robes, and I won’t blot their name out of the book of life. I will acknowledge their name in the presence of my father and in the presence of his angels. Revelation 3:5 New Testament for Everyone

Now, I know that Revelation creates a whole lot of questions for a whole lot of people. I don’t claim to have it figured out, but I do claim to be one of the rescued ones whose soul will celebrate – now and then – because Jesus knows my name.

No Greater Joy

[Chorus] No greater joy

than to hear You speak my name

to Your Father in the company

of thousands of angels!

O, joy, joy, joy, joy, joy, joy, joy

No greater joy

No greater joy!

Since the creation of the world

You’ve known my name.

A reservation in Your heaven

Has been made for me.

[Chorus]

I close my eyes and turn my ear –

can You see me?

I’m listening and long to hear

You speak my name, Jesus.

[Chorus]

Although I can’t quite see it

I am standing

dressed in white

bathed in the radiance of Your glorious light

and then it falls like many waters

washes over me

and my heart thrills

to hear You call me by my name!

[Chorus]

I hear Your voice

it’s in my heart

Your salvation brings joy and now

I’ll celebrate the day

I hear You speak my name!

No greater joy

than to hear You speak my name

to Your Father in the company

of thousands of angels!

O, joy, joy, joy, joy, joy, joy, joy

No greater joy

No greater joy!

I remember our Beth Moore study! It was very difficult, lots of work to get results. Brita encouraged me to push through and keep going. It turned into a meaningful study. I also had the bragging rights I finished it!
