Advent should be an ADVENTure!
An adventure that honors tradition without bowing the knee to retail-bullying.
One that embraces fun and gift-giving without breaking the bank.
One that engages more of me than just my schedule and my credit card.
The season of Advent may appear to have been hijacked by a relentless stream of commercial messages, but this year can be different! Instead of plodding through another stress-filled holiday, women on the move are choosing a different route to Christmas morning.
Trek to the Manger is a tool in the hands (and hearts) of busy women during the season of Advent. Each daily devotion presents an opportunity to redeem the Christmas holiday and reclaim our focus on the Light of the World. This spiritual adventure is an ideal resource for small groups, Bible studies, or personal devotional reading.
A reading schedule and small group discussion guide are available upon request for women wishing to join others on this journey of faith. Use the contact form below to access these resources!
It’s time to fire up your GPS and grab a traveling buddy or two! Not for another trip to the mall… for a Trek to the Manger.

My church family recently welcomed a new member to our staff. As Adam was introducing himself to us, he said something that lodged in my brain and hasn’t stopped pinging since. He said that God creates order from chaos. Now, I don’t know what you see. What I mean is, when you look around your […]
I ushered in the season of Lent from a unique vantage point today. Holding a small dish filled with a mixture of last year’s celebratory palm branches and oil, I finger-painted ashy crosses on the bared foreheads of broken people for whom Jesus came to die. In church-language, what I did is known as imposition […]
I stood alone in a room full of thousands with David Crowder on the stage. While singing along to a familiar tune, I was struck – almost tangibly – with the strong impression to be silent and listen. I heard the music in layers, and it felt as if the familiar, easy topcoat of melody […]
I’ve stayed in more hotel rooms these past six months than in the past ten years of my life combined. As one who is often all too willing to subscribe to marketing ploys, I generally keep my Hilton Honors card pretty close (points speak, you know). But these travels have brought me to a variety […]
‘Not another church!’ You might expect these words from a teenager on holiday in Europe, but not from me. Not from the mom whose 9-to-5 (make that 24/7) revolves around the Church – the Body of Christ. Nevertheless, after walking dutifully through gothic and ornate church building after church building, these words may have been […]
Our first day in Italy. What better way to spend it than exploring the island of Capri?! Unfortunately, our adventure began in a flurry of missed buses and racing hearts and feet as we showed our true tourist-colors in a strange land (with strange street names, bus stops and interpretations of time). Never mind, though, […]
The part of the tour that my son dreaded the most had finally arrived. As the bus turned toward Mondsee from Salzburg, our guide switched on the soundtrack and challenged the intergenerational bus load of fans (and their reluctant companions) to sing along. I couldn’t help myself as, grinning from ear to ear, I joined […]
We arrived in Germany on a Monday, and by Wednesday I was getting nervous… Thursday was family-arrival-day. My daughter and I made the long hop together, arriving to meet my parents who had done their pilgrimage the week before. When my husband and son hit the tarmac running, we might have been singing ‘The Gang’s […]
Some people barrel through life in a constant state of ablaze-for-what-comes-next. Some people live very well in the moment, but when the moment is gone, so goes its power. No lesson learned. No lingering sense of the holy in what just happened. And some people put down roots – deep and extensive roots – in […]
